ROAM

A connected home for a conservation ecosystem — a story-first website, a headless shop, illustrated storytelling, and a CMS that lets the team run it all.

The brief

ROAM is the ecosystem founded by conservationist, photographer, and filmmaker Xtina Parks: Roam Africa Conservation, a 501(c)(3) protecting wildlife across Southern and Eastern Africa, alongside a fair-trade African art gallery and shop, a film studio and content series, an award-winning photography book, an artist residency, and the Motlhala Tau safari lodge in Botswana. Each venture had its own presence, but nothing told the story of how they work together to fund and fuel the mission. ROAM needed a single home at roam.eco that could hold all of it — warm, expert, unmistakably theirs — and that the team could keep running themselves.

What we did

  • Designed and developed roam.eco as the hub of the ecosystem: a story-first homepage with a looping cinematic hero, and dedicated pages for conservation, the gallery, photography and the ROAM book, the film series, the artist residency, the safari lodge, press, and donations.
  • Gave the site a warm, earthy visual language rooted in the burnt-orange African sun — hand-illustrated landscapes, an illustrated map of the gallery's Williamstown neighborhood, and organic grass-edged section transitions throughout.
  • Built hand-made motion across the site — an animated logo reveal, scroll-driven image sequences, an opening-book animation, and an animated donate button — so it feels like the places and work it represents.
  • Engineered a headless Shopify storefront for the ROAM Gallery & Shop, with categories, sub-collections, search, and artist-linked collections, plus artist and exhibition pages where the text wraps around the actual shape of each artwork.
  • Integrated the YouTube API to power a searchable library of ROAM's documentaries and the ROAM with Xtina series.
  • Put the whole site in the team's hands with a Keystatic CMS — press, exhibitions, artists, conservation projects, team, and board — and built residency, lodge, and general contact forms with admin-editable recipients, spam protection, and reliable email delivery.

The outcome

roam.eco now brings the whole ROAM ecosystem under one roof, with every venture a click away from the story that connects them, and an always-present way to support the mission. The team edits content on their own, and we continue to evolve the site with them as the ecosystem grows.
